Four Accused in $3M Bolshoi Embezzlement Scandal

One hundred million rubles ($3 million) in state funds have been embezzled during the renovation of Moscow's legendary Bolshoi and Maly Theaters, the Moscow police department said.

Four people were accused Wednesday, the department said, RIA Novosti reported.

Investigators suspect the contracting companies' directors of falsifying documents to receive payments for services that were never rendered.

The allegations have been confirmed by several expert appraisals, the police department said.

In June, the CEO of building contractor Teplotekhnik was charged with misappropriating another 90 million rubles during the $1 billion renovation of the Bolshoi.
