Russian Police Hunt Masked Gunman Who Killed 2 Children

Police are investigating after a masked assailant broke into a businessman's home in southern Russia and shot dead his two children and wounded his wife, investigators said in a statement Monday.

The gunman, armed with a rifle, broke into the house through the roof Saturday night, entered the room where two children were sleeping and opened fire. The boy, 16, was taken to hospital but died of his injuries, while the girl, 11, died at the scene, the Stavropol Region's Investigative Committee said in the statement.

Their mother, 43, is being treated for gunshot injuries she received when the gunman shot at her before fleeing the scene.

Investigators have opened a criminal case and are considering the possibility that the attack was linked to the homeowner's commercial activity.
