3 Gunmen Killed in Counter-Terrorism Operation in Nalchik

A counter-terrorism operation in the southern city of Nalchik has ended in the deaths of three gunmen at the hands of special forces troops.

At 5:35 a.m., police received a tip-off from an unidentified man who said he had seen three armed men on the premises of the horticultural society in Nalchik, which is about 1,500 kilometers south of Moscow.

Special police teams were immediately dispatched to the area and at 5:45 a.m. a firefight broke out, Interfax reported.

Local authorities introduced safety measures in the three streets affected by the operation.

The operation has since been brought to a conclusion, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said.
