Indian Trade Pact Could be Amended

Russia has asked India to amend the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, signed by the two countries in1994, an Indian official said.

Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Ahamed announced the request in the Indian parliament's upper house late last week, in response to a question about whether Russian authorities had raised concerns about investment in India.

"The Russian side has specifically voiced concerns regarding large scale investments made by Russian firms in the telecom sector … and has suggested amending the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement of 1994," the minister said.
