Indian Arms Deal Eyed

Russia can still hope to get some lucrative defense deals from India despite foreign competition and defense budget cuts, said an Indian official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

"It is certainly not the end of the road for the Russians. Moscow can still hope to take a big bite of the Indian defense pie," the official said.

One of the deals on which Indian-Russian negotiations might progress in the coming weeks and months involves Russia's offer to supply BMP-3 infantry combat vehicles. Russia offered the deal to India late last year.
