Livestock Sees Small Gains

Russia had 9 million cows as of Oct. 1, up 0.6 percent from a year earlier, the State Statistics Service said Wednesday.

The total of 18.8 million pigs was up 0.4 percent and the 24 million sheep and goats up 2.1 percent, the service said.

Production of meat and poultry, including byproducts, rose 4.4 percent to 7.1 million tons through July this year compared with a year earlier, it said.
