President's Guards Killed

ROSTOV-ON-DON — Two bodyguards for the president of the separatist Georgian region of South Ossetia were shot to death in a fight in a Russian nightclub.

One of the men killed was identified as a first cousin of South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity.

A Russian police spokesman, Sergei Alekhin, said the fight took place early Friday in a club in the city of Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia. Details of the fight were unclear, but Alekhin said a suspect was in custody.

News reports said Kokoity was not with the bodyguards.
