Baltic Ice Still a Hindrance

Baltic Sea ice floes are slowing exports of metals and coal and imports of car parts, interrupting output at Ford's St. Petersburg plant.

Ford halted assembly for 24 hours last week because of St. Petersburg port congestion, said Ford spokeswoman Yekaterina Kulinenko. Toyota's output at its factory in the region was also halted, Kommersant reported Friday. Toyota spokeswoman Yevgenia Teterina couldn't be reached for comment immediately.

The newspaper cited port operators as saying coal and metals shipments have been disrupted by ice congestion in the Gulf of Finland.
