Police Law Signed

President Dmitry Medvedev signed the controversial bill on police reform Monday, set to go into effect March 1, Interfax reported.

Medvedev said the legislation may be revised later, depending on the results of its implementation, and that more related bills, including one on social security for police officers, will be introduced.

The draft of the bill was released for public discussion last year, but many proposals put forth by the general public as well as most amendments by parliamentary opposition were discarded in the final version.
