President Dmitry Medvedev should proclaim an amnesty for insurgents in Dagestan, the republic’s leader, Magomedsalam Magomedov, said at the Congress of Peoples of Dagestan that opened in Moscow on Wednesday, Interfax reported.
About 180 rebels were killed in Dagestan this year, Magomedov said. “I’m not happy about the statistics, we’re talking about killing Dagestanis here,” he said, proposing that the congress make an official appeal to Medvedev on the amnesty.
