START Debate Wednesday?

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate could begin consideration of the New START nuclear arms treaty with Russia on Wednesday, a senior Democratic aide said Tuesday.

The aide, Jim Manley, said the Senate could take up the treaty after it passes tax legislation on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The pact, signed by the United States and Russia in April, would limit both nations’ nuclear warheads and establish a system for verification.
