Japanese Envoy Returns

TOKYO — Japan has ordered the return of its ambassador to Russia, who had been temporarily recalled amid a spat over a disputed island chain, the Kyodo news agency reported Sunday.

Kyodo said Ambassador Masaharu Kono, recalled Wednesday after President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to one of four islands held by Russia, would return to Moscow later in the day in a bid to repair ties quickly.
