Rape Suspect Hangs Self

A 37-year-old Central Asian native detained on rape charges has hanged himself in a prison cell in the Moscow region town of Ramenskoye, a law enforcement source told Interfax.

The incident happened Saturday but was only reported Monday. The source did not provide the man’s name, but said he probably committed suicide because he feared that his future cellmates would abuse him. Rape suspects are often sexually assaulted by other inmates in Russian prisons.
