Serbs Ask About Fugitive

BELGRADE, Serbia — Serbia said Tuesday that it has formally asked Russia whether it has granted asylum to a fugitive tycoon who is sought by Belgrade on an international warrant for alleged fraud and corruption.

The move follows reports in the Serbian media that Bogoljub Karic, a former cell phone network owner, had been granted asylum in Russia after fleeing Serbia in 2006.

The Serbian Justice Ministry said the request was sent to Moscow through the Foreign Ministry. It said Moscow should respond by the end of the week.
