Ditched Boy 'Not' Back to Orphanage

Children's ombudsman Pavel Astakhov denied Monday that 8-year-old Artyom Savelyev, returned unaccompanied to Russia by his adoptive U.S. mother in April, was sent back to an orphanage, Interfax reported.

Astakhov also denied U.S. news reports that the boy might be adopted by a new American family, saying the boy, who is currently resting at an unspecified sanatorium in Russia, would stay in the country.

Several Russian families have expressed interest in adopting the boy, but no decision has been made so far, Interfax said.
