West Indians Triumph

FARIDABAD, India () -- Indian batsmen collapsed before the famed West Indies' pace attack Monday, losing the first one-day cricket international by 97 runs.

Chasing a victory target of 274 runs in the allotted 50 overs, the hosts lost quick wickets and were all out for 176 in 44.5 overs. The only Indian resistance came from newcomer Atul Bedade and old guard Navjyot Singh Sidhu. Both scored 52 runs -- Sidhu making the runs off 80 balls and Bedade doing so off only 55.

Though Brian Lara failed to score beyond 10 runs, Carl Hooper and Keith Arthurton contributed 61 and 37 runs respectively for the Indies side.
