TV Boxing AnemicHIROSHIMA, Japan () -- World amateur boxing's chief official lamented that the sport was now run for grandmothers watching television -- robbed of its drama, spectacle and blood.


Anwar Chowdhry of Bangladesh, in Hiroshima to attend the Asian Games, said in an interview Tuesday that television was to blame for the sport having becomed obsessed with safety.


Chowdhry is president of the International Amateur Boxing Association, the governing body for amateur boxing.


"The spectators at ringside still want the knockdowns and the blood, but a lot of grandmothers with nothing else to do sit at home and watch it on television," Chowdhry said. "They don't want to see blood."
