Thieves Take $24,000 in Russian Coins

Thieves stole 47 million rubles (about $24,000) worth of coins from a warehouse of the Moscow mint, a spokesman for the Moscow police said Monday. Igor Tsyrulnikov said the mint director had reported the robbery on Sunday morning from the warehouse 1 Podolskoye Shosse, in south Moscow. He said a collection of 443 gold coins worth $50 each and 30 silver coins had been stolen. An investigation has begun, but the robbers have not been identified. Tsyrulnikov said Finance Ministry security guards did not notice the criminals, who had broke in a ground floor window.
