GENEVA () -- Misuse of antibiotics has caused a resurgence of diseases such as tuberculosis and cholera, and urgent measures are needed to combat the development, the World Health Organization has declared. Bacteria "are spreading with unexpected rapidity, having developed defense mechanisms against existing antibiotics," participants said.
WHO called the meeting, which was attended by doctors and scientists from 23 countries, because of a growing number of reports of the incidence of drug-resistant diseases.
