Tax Treaty Announced

MOSCOW ) -- Russia and France announced a tax treaty that should encourage French investment in the Russian economy, ministers from the two countries said.

French Finance Minister Jean Arthuis and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Shakhrai told reporters in Moscow after a regular session of the Franco-Russian Economic Council on Friday that they had also made progress in a number of other areas promoting mutual economic ties.

Under the tax treaty, firms operating in both France and Russia will pay tax only once on the same income.

French-Russian trade this year would be about $2.4 billion or some 5 to 7 percent up on 1994, Shakrai said.
