Tajik Border Clashes

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan () -- Border guards on the Tajik-Afghan frontier killed 35 armed men trying to cross from northern Afghanistan, the Russian-led border guards command said in a statement Tuesday.

The border clash, believed to be the most serious since 1993, made a mockery of plans by the Tajik government and the exiled opposition to extend a late 1994 cease-fire by 50 days to help UN efforts to get stalled peace talks going again.
