Seliverstov Military Graft Trial Adjourned

The corruption trial of Major General Nikolai Seliverstov, a top general of the former Western Group of the Russian Army, was adjourned Wednesday due to the request of the public prosecutor.


The prosecutor, Alexander Pikhulya, asked court to adjourn the hearings for a day for "personal" reasons.


Nikolai Seliverstov, 49, is the former first deputy commander of the 16th Russian Air Force which was based in Germany until its withdrawal earlier this year.


Seliverstov is accused by the Military Prosecutor's Office of embezzling 64,100 Deutsche marks (about $40,000) and taking bribes totaling 20,000 marks.


His ground-breaking trial began Tuesday.
