Russian-Style 'Biznes' Books

"Biznes," that ever increasingly popular Russian pursuit, is also increasingly a literary pursuit. If there's anything almost as interesting as actually doing business, it's writing about how to do business and how the economy does or doesn't work.

More and more, Russian books on business and economics are not translations, but instead the original works of Russian specialists. However naive, biased or simply wrong they might seem to foreign businessmen, they are interesting in that they show the level of professionalism of their Russian counterparts, and at least for this reason are very much worth reading.

Such books can be purchased in special sections of larger bookstores, the three best being "Dom Knigi" on Novy Arbat, "Biblioglobus" on Myasnitskaya Ulitsa, and "Moskva" on Tverskaya. Or, the place to find books on business all in one place is the specialty bookstore "Biznes-Kniga" at 19 Bolshaya Ordynka Street, Building 2.

Here are two new arrivals at Biznes-Kniga:

Investments and Business Activities Book: Investor's Reference Book, published by Tsentropoligraph, 200 pages. It covers such areas as: the current state of reforms in Russia, regulation of foreign investment in Russia, types of property and privatization in Russia.

Foreign Capital in Russia. Answers to Some Practical Questions, published by the International Academy of Information, 86 pages. Among the questions it asks are: Will Russia be saved by a traditional solution to the crisis, i.e., by foreign capital? What can international financial organizations do in Russia? Private foreign capital in Russia -- reality or myth?
