Rovers' Surprise Defeat

Wimbledon sent Blackburn Rovers to their heaviest defeat of the season and ended their hopes of pulling level with Manchester United at the top of the English premier league when they routed them 4-1.

Three goals in an eight-minute spell late in the game gave Wimbledon an unlikely victory and left Blackburn defeated for only the second time in 18 league matches. The result leaves Manchester United three points clear at the top with 73 points from 33 matches, followed by Blackburn on 70 from 34. United play Liverpool at home on Wednesday night and travel to Blackburn on Saturday.

In the two other premier league games played on Tuesday, Newcastle moved up to third place with a 3-0 demolition of Norwich, while Ipswich and Manchester City shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Portman Road.
