Moscow Mayor's Office Approves Next Opposition Rally

The Moscow mayor's office approved the next opposition march scheduled for March 2, Alexei Mayorov, head of the city's regional security department, said Wednesday.

The "For Muscovites' Rights" march will proceed along the opposition's preferred route from Strastnoi Bulvar and end with a rally on Prospekt Akademika Sakharova, RIA-Novosti reported. The organizers put the number of rally participants at 5,000.

The city's approval follows Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov's announcement on Twitter on Monday that the mayor's office rejected the opposition's initial application, suggesting the event use a different route. That application asked to hold the "social march" from Sretensky Bulvar to Tverskaya Ploshchad.

The rally, set to begin at 2 p.m., calls for "putting Moscow back under the control of its citizens," Udaltsov wrote on Wednesday.
