Medalist Had Tumor

SEOUL () -- A South Korean wrestler won a gold medal at the Asian Games with a cancerous tumor bigger than a baseball in his stomach, hospital officials said Thursday.

Song Sung-il, 25, took gold in the Greco-Roman mid-heavyweight category by beating Kazakhstan's Vitaly Leikine on Oct. 5 at the Hiroshima Games. But back home in Seoul, Song underwent a 5 1/2-hour operation Wednesday to remove the tumor. South Korea's Joongang Ilbo newspaper said Song would have to give up wrestling.
