Man Complains to Police About Stolen Marijuana Plants, Gets Sentenced for Growing Marijuana

A resident in Russia's Arkhangelsk region complained to police about his marijuana plants being stolen only to have a criminal case opened against him for illegally growing the plant.

Thirty-year-old Alexander Korotkov was found guilty of the charges on Monday and sentenced to 200 hours of community service, according to a statement published on the website of the regional prosecutors' office.

"After visiting the land, he discovered that 24 hemp plants planted by him had been cut away. Considering this to be the theft of his plants, Korotkov appealed to police with a complaint," the statement said.

The statement said Korotkov had begun growing marijuana plants in a patch of forestland over the summer. It was unclear how much land his marijuana garden covered.
