Luger's Gold Stolen

Thieves broke into Olympic luge champion Gerda Weissensteiner's house and stole the gold medal she won at the Lillehammer Olympics while she was attending her brother's funeral on Tuesday.

"Sadly we have to confirm this is true. Thieves broke in and took the medal," a police spokesman said.

Weissensteiner's joy at winning gold in the women's singles for Italy last month turned to sorrow at the weekend when her 20-year-old brother Daniel was killed in a motorcycling accident.
