Lindros Hat Trick Key, Flyers Pound Habs 8-4

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -- Eric Lindros notched his second straight hat trick as the Philadelphia Flyers continued their hot streak with an 8-4 drubbing of the Montreal Canadiens.

Lindros scored 8:23 into the second period on Monday to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead and made it 4-1 just over four minutes later. Lindros, who also had an assist, closed the scoring with 68 seconds left.

"I'm just one of the guys out there with my shovel," said Lindros, who moved a point ahead of Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr for the league scoring lead. "We're having a lot of fun out there. Everyone's having a good time."

Nordiques 5, Panthers 4, OT. In Quebec, Owen Nolan scored his 18th goal of the season with 2:27 left in overtime to lift the Quebec Nordiques to a 5-4 victory over the Florida Panthers.

Nolan, who had scored two goals in the each of his last two games, took a pass from Peter Forsberg at the top of the left circle, skated in and put a slap shot over Florida goaltender Mark Fitzpatrick's right shoulder.

Capitals 5, Hartford 0. In Hartford, Jim Carey stopped 30 shots for his second shutout and Dmitri Khristich had a pair of goals and an assist as the Washington Capitals bombed the Hartford Whalers, 5-0.

Carey earned his second shutout in his last four starts with 24 saves over the final two periods.

The Capitals are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, all with the rookie goalie.

"I go into every game hoping for a shutout, that's my goal and it should be everyone's goal," Carey said.

Oilers 5, Flames 2. In Edmonton, Jason Arnott recorded his first career hat trick and Doug Weight added a goal and four assists to lead the surging Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames in a fight-filled contest.

Kings 5, Blues 3. In Los Angeles, Wayne Gretzky had his first two-goal game in exactly a year and added an assist and the Los Angeles Kings broke an eight-game home winless streak with a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Gretzky scored two goals in a game for the first time since he tied Gordie Howe's NHL record with his 802nd goal on March 20, 1994.
