KIEV () -- The Papal Nuncio in Ukraine has invited President Leonid Kuchma to visit the Vatican and said Pope John Paul hoped to visit the mostly Orthodox former Soviet republic.
"The Pope hopes to visit Ukraine. The Vatican cannot give Ukraine financial assistance, but it can offer moral and political support," a presidential spokesman quoted Antonio Franco as saying Tuesday during a meeting with Kuchma.
