Kobe Recovery Aid

TOKYO () -- Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama announced a package of measures Thursday to help rebuild areas of Japan shattered by the January earthquake.


Top priority, he said, is to remove the rubble and provide relief to the quake victims, as well as promote the building of towns capable of sustaining earthquakes. The package includes exempting quake victims from paying income taxes for 1994 and 1995 and a government financing plan to help small and medium-sized firms recover
