KGB vs. Hitler's Corpse

HAMBURG, Germany () -- Former Soviet leaders, fearing the remains of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler would attract venerating neo-Nazis, ordered them incinerated in 1970, a magazine has reported.

The Hamburg-based Der Spiegel said Sunday that Hitler's remains, those of Eva Braun and Josef Goebbels and his family, were excavated from graves in Magdeburg near Berlin in April 1970 on orders of the KGB.

Spiegel said that in early 1970, KGB chief Yury Andropov was informed the graves existed and that there was danger of the site attracting neo-Nazi pilgrims if Soviet military presence was reduced.
