IRA Uses Bike Bombs

LONDON () -- The IRA used "bicycle bombs" for two weekend attacks on British seaside resorts in a headline-grabbing switch of tactics for the 25th anniversary of British troop deployment in Northern Ireland.

The Irish Republican Army bombers who blasted shops in the southern seaside town of Bognor Regis and tried to blow up the pier in nearby Brighton on Saturday planted the explosives in bicycles with saddle bags, police said. No injuries were reported in either incident.

The twin bomb attacks fuelled speculation that the IRA is deliberately stepping up its campaign of violence to increase the impact of a widely anticipated ceasefire later this year.
