Interest Rates to Go Up

MOSCOW () -- Russia, its currency driven lower by fears that the Chechnya campaign will fuel inflation, will raise interest rates Friday, Prime News Agency quoted a senior Central Bank official as saying Thursday.

The official said the Central Bank's key refinancing rate would rise to 200 percent from 180 percent, bringing it to the highest level since April last year. The rate is used by commercial banks taking up Central Bank funds.
