A drunken traffic cop was busted in Moscow on Wednesday after he hit a parked car while driving a stolen vehicle, police said.

Police officers arrived on the scene after 23-year-old Oleg Kalko struck a parked Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver was unable to provide documents establishing either his identity or ownership of the Nissan X-Trail SUV he was driving but turned out to be a traffic cop, the press service of the Interior Ministry said, according to the Regnum news agency.

Subsequent checks found that Kalko was driving a vehicle that had been registered as stolen.

Kalko grazed several other cars during a chase with police before crashing into the Grand Cherokee, an unnamed police source told website Lifenews.ru.

The traffic cop was taken into custody and will be relieved of his position in accordance with police protocol.

The district deputy commander in charge of personnel will also be fired for delaying a background check on the officer in question, Regnum reported.
