Hail of Shells in Bosnia

SARAJEVO -- Serb and Moslem soldiers battled for advantage along a bitterly contested frontline Tuesday as politicians bargained over whether and for how long to stop the shooting. UN observers reported heavy shelling along a 60-kilometer north-to-south line between Gradacac and Ribnica in northern Bosnia. More than 1,100 explosions were reported. Bosnian Serbs also reported new shelling of Brcko, the key point in a narrow corridor linking holdings in Croatia and Bosnia with Serb-led Yugoslavia. The fighting came as UN officials in Geneva pressed Serbs and Muslims and their Croat allies on the other side to come to an agreement on the length of a cease-fire for the entire republic.
