Golf Shooter Charged

NILES, Ohio -- A man who said he was target shooting was charged with negligent assault in the accidental shooting of professional golfer Kim Williams.


Gary Swaney, 35, pleaded innocent to the charge in municipal court on Tuesday. He is scheduled to return for a pretrial hearing Aug. 1.


The charge is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. Williams, 31, of Boca Raton, Florida, was shot July 2 in a drug store parking lot. She was in the Niles area for the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic.
