German Nazi Drama

BONN ( -- Chancellor Helmut Kohl's government Wednesday criticized a German court for praising a far-right leader's character after it had given him a mild sentence for denying the Nazi holocaust took place.


G--nter Deckert, leader of the far-right National Democratic Party, received a one-year suspended term and a 10,000 Deutsche mark ($6,300) fine in June after being convicted of incitement to racial hatred for spreading the view that there had been no gas chambers at the Auschwitz Nazi death camp.


The court Tuesday defended its decision by saying Deckert was an intelligent father of a family and had no previous criminal record
