Gay rights activists have notified the St. Petersburg administration of their plans to stage the city’s first gay pride parade on June 26, Interfax reported Tuesday.
The activists expect 500 to 600 people to march on Konnogvardeisky Bulvar from Ploshchad Truda and then hold a rally on Ploshchad Dekabristov.
Organizers have asked St. Petersburg ombudsman Alexei Kozyrev to protect the rights of gays and lesbians.
Numerous attempts to stage gay pride events in Moscow have been banned by City Hall.
