The Swede was outplayed Thursday by Frenchman Guy Forget, losing 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. It was a humiliating fourth successive defeat for the Swede at the hands of Forget -- ranked 130 in the world -- in indoor matches.
Third-seeded Yevgeny Kafelnikov was knocked out by Lionel Roux of France 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), and American Patrick McEnroe knocked out No. 6 Jaime Yzaga of Peru with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win. First seed Michael Stich of Germany defeated Jonas Svensson 6-3, 6-4 for a place in the quarterfinals.
