Federation Council Confirms 2 Constitutional Court Judges

The Moscow Times

The Federation Council confirmed two judges for the Constitutional Court on Wednesday.

Alexander Kokotov and Konstantin Aranovsky were nominated by President Dmitry Medvedev after two Constitutional Court judges resigned.

Former Constitutional Court judge Anatoly Kononov stepped down on Jan. 1 after giving critical remarks about the judicial system. Chief justice Valery Zorkin said Kononov resigned on his own for health reasons.

The second judge, Anatoly Sliva, 70, resigned in February because of his age. Judges are not allowed to serve after 70.

Kokotov previously worked at the Urals State Law Academy, while Aranovsky was a professor with Far East State University, Interfax reported.
