China's Flood Toll Rises

BEIJING -- A second wave of flooding caused by heavy rains has devastated south China's southern Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, killing at least 100 people.

Official reports said the collapse of 175,000 homes and severe damage to 530,000 had also left thousands homeless in the two provinces.

The foul weather caused major disruptions to farming, swamping tens of thousands of hectares of ripening crops and sending prices for non-staple foods and vegetables soaring 40 percent in the Guangdong capital Guangzhou.
