BBC Radio Expands

MOSCOW -- An estimated 5 million people in Russia are expected to tune in to a new BBC weekly radio program dealing with politics and current affairs. The program, which will be in Russian, will be launched Nov. 14 in cooperation with Radio Russia, a BBC official said.

The new program, called Democracy at First Hand, will focus on key figures in Russia's swiftly changing politics, explained Andrew Sparke, project manager at the BBC's Moscow office.

Sparke said the program was to enhance listeners' understanding of politics by asking prominent figures to lead political discussions.
