Azerbaijan Reports Invasion

Azerbaijan accused Armenia on Tuesday of invading its enclave of Nakhichevan, bordering on Turkey. Armenia flatly denied the charge. Statements by the Azeri Defense Ministry and the Nakhichevan regional parliament said up to 300 Armenian troops, backed by armored cars, moved into the region on Monday after shelling it. They captured positions up to five kilometers from the border between Armenia and Nakhichevan, the statements, reported by the Azeri Turan news agency, said. "It is complete disinformation," said a spokesman for the Armenian Defense Ministry by telephone from Yerevan. "All is quiet along the Armenian-Azeri border." Nakhichevan is an enclave of Azerbaijani territory bordered by Armenia, Turkey and Iran.
