9 Killed by Train

MOSCOW () -- Nine people were killed when a car smashed into a train as its drunk driver tried to cross the track, an official said Monday.

The accident happened near the city of Vladimir some 200 kilometers east of Moscow on Sunday.

The driver brought his vehicle to a railway crossing without noticing the train coming, said Carl Smolikov, spokesman for the Emergency Situations Ministry.

All passengers, packed into an old five-seat sedan -- five men, three women and a 2-month-old girl -- were killed, Smolikov said. The driver and all adult passengers were drunk, he added.
