Prime Minister Vladimir Putin currently has the support of 45% of the population in his effort to become president, according to the latest poll by the Public Opinion Fund.
The former president has gained 1 percent of support compared to the previous survey by the pollster, conducted Dec. 25, and 4 percent since early November.
No other presidential candidate received the support of more than 11 percent of those polled. If Putin were to garner less than 50% of the vote, he would be forced into a runoff with the next-place finisher.
