The government has authorized the use of $250 million worth of U. S. credits to buy grain from American producers, Interfax reported.


The credits are part of a U. S. grain package totalling $900 million. The purchase will be a supplement to existing contracts for 6. 7 million tons of grain.


Interfax also reported that President Boris Yeltsin has issued a decree dissolving the Committee for Bread Products and replacing it with Roskhlebprodukt, which wilt now be in charge of all grain purchases for the government.


Roskhlebprodukt will be headed by Leonid Cheshinsky, who chaired the previous committee. He predicted that bread prices would not go up in the near future, and might even go down in some regions of Russia.


He said that although Russia's harvest would be 14 million tons more than last year, the government would import up to 25 million tons of grain.
