KamAZ said Thursday that it will suspend production in part of August after demand fell because of the global economic crisis.
KamAZ plans to suspend production in August next year as well to balance orders throughout the rest of the year, the company said.
“It’s a double win,” chief executive Sergei Kogogin said in the statement. “First, workers get to relax during the best month of the year for vacation. Second, it’s economically advantageous for the company, as it allows us to plan production at a consistent level each month.”
Russian demand for trucks has fallen “significantly” after construction, transportation and production of oil, gas and coal slumped, said. The country’s economy is sliding into recession after global demand for its natural resources dried up, ending a decade of growth.
