Part of Jamaican Bobsled Team's Equipment Lost in Transit

KRASNAYA POLYANA — The fairytale story of the Jamaican Olympic bobsled team took another twist Wednesday as pilot Winston Watts revealed that they had arrived in Sochi without the runners for their sled.

The Jamaican team, made famous by the 1993 film "Cool Runnings," only rustled up the money to travel to Sochi after an Internet fundraiser. Watts said misfortune struck when their baggage was lost in transit.

"We've got a backup plan," said Watts, 46, who has come out of retirement to compete in Sochi.

"A lot of people want to help us and we can take part in the race with backup runners."

The Jamaican bobsled team debuted at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, using former sprinters to crew the sled. That tradition has carried over to Sochi, with Watts and Marvin Dixon both ex-track athletes.
