Seventy-seven years ago today, on June 10, 1936, the animation studio Soyuzmultfilm — the company responsible for producing some of the most well-loved animations of the Soviet era — was founded in Moscow. Following a decline in popularity during the 1980's, the studio was made into a leased enterprise but was brought back under government control in 1999.
